WAIN (John, b. 1925, Novelist and Poet)

Autograph Letter Signed to Basil Dowling, saying he is "so sorry to hear about your accident. Of course whenever one is hurt there are always doctors about to tell one how 'lucky' one was not to be hurt worse or killed, but it is an inside-out sort of luck at best", he is very disappointed, "and so is everyone here that you won't be with us for the Festival; it isn't likely to be an annual event, but it may be repeated at intervals, and you certainly won't be forgotten", 2 sides 4to., printed heading 'Poetry at the Mermaid 16-23 July 1961 Director John Wain', The Poetry Book Society Ltd., 4 St. James's Square, London S.W.1, 28th June

Wain was lecturer in English Literature at Reading, 1949-1955. In 1961 he published his verses 'Weep before God', and an autobiography 'Sprightly Running' in 1962.
