Wallace was Foreign Correspondent of 'The Times', and after six years in the country wrote his highly successful 'Russia', 1877, and accompanied the Czar on his visit to Great Britain, 1909. He was private secretary to two viceroys of India, Dufferin and Lansdowne, 1884-1889.
