Amis was Secretary of the Royal Philharmonic Arts Club, 1942, and from 1947 on the staff of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Thomas Beecham. He is best known for his appearance on radio and television in 'My Music' with Steve Race, Dennis Norden, Ian Wallace and Frank Muir. He wrote 'My Life, My Music' (1985).
