Affectionate Autograph letter signed"Charlotte" to Lady Mary Howe saying that "in order to try your temper I will interrupt in the Midst of your attendance upon a Beloved Father, who I do hope is now in a state of recovering & restored to you for many years to come. I trust Providence will leave us some of those that are good & Amiable & Esteemed by the Country. The Number of real good are few, & as I put Lord Stow at the head of those Tell him with my best Compliment He cannot live to[sic] long & that I hope He will take great care of Himself that I may have the Pleasure of seeing Him at His return from Bath at the Queen's House, & now my dear little Merry how has dear Lady How supported herself under such a long anxiety, I fear it has done her no good. My thoughts & good wishes have attended her constantly, & were I not a Queen & by that Name deprived... of fulfilling those little friendly services which a Feeling Heart is ever ready to offer, I should have been happy to Comfort & assist Her in the Time of trouble. The only Time indeed in which such Affection can be known. As My Lord recovers I hope she will also feel the Benefit of that recovery in Her own Health, for if the Mind gets easy, the rest follows of course. How do you now spend your Time at Bath? I hope more gayly! The Newspapers furnish Us with various accounts from that Part of the World, both in Prose & Verse ... I should wish to be amongst you. But that must remain a wish only as many other things in this World, & as I cannot be with you I wish at least you should sometimes think of me, & that you may be induced to do so, I send a little Almanac called vulgarly a Thumb.
