Invitation to the Coronation Durbar of the King Emperor and the Queen Empress printed with the details filled in by hand, admitting "Major E. G. Thompson to Block R, No. 78" in the Durbar Amphitheatre, with instructions for the dress code "Uniform full dress. Court dress for those not entitled to wear uniform. Morning Dress permitted where Court dress not available. Collar Day.", on the verso is the plan showing the Royal Pavilion in the centre and the Darbar Shamiana near the seating which lists the "Ruling Chiefs, Durbaries, Spectators" and finally "Rows Standing", 2 sides 8½" x 6", with original envelope together with the original Gold, Red and Blue printed tag for admission to the Delhi Enclosure,2½" x 2½" max, Delhi, 12the December

The official Delhi Durbar ceremonies lasted from 7th to 16th December, with the Durbar itself occurring on Tuesday, 12th December. The royal couple arrived at Coronation Park in their Coronation robes, the King-Emperor wearing the Imperial Crown of India with eight arches, containing 6170 exquisitely cut diamonds, and covered with sapphires, emeralds and rubies, with a velvet and miniver cap all weighing 34.05 ounces. After they had received homage from the Native Princes the Royal couple ascended to the domed royal pavilion, where the King-Emperor announced the move of India's capital from Calcutta to Delhi. The annulment of the Partition of Bengal was also announced during the ceremony.
Collar days are designated days on which the collar forming part of the insignia of certain members of British orders of knighthood may be worn. Collars are special large and elaborate ceremonial metal chains worn over the shoulders, hanging equally over the front and back, often tied with a bow at the shoulders, with a distinctive pendant attached to the front.
