Ferdinand accepted the crown in 1887 on the abdication of Prince Alexander. He himself abdicated in favour of his son Boris in 1918.
Ferdinand married Princess Marie Louise of Bourbon-Parma, daughter of Robert I, Duke of Parma and Princess Maria Pia of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, on 20th April 1893 at the Villa Pianore in Lucca. Marie Louise died on 31st January 1899 after giving birth to her fourth child, Nadezhda.
Ferdinand accepted the crown in 1887 on the abdication of Prince Alexander. He himself abdicated in favour of his son Boris in 1918. He was an ally of the Kaiser in World War I.
