LIEBIG RUSSIAN MENU CARD

Fine Chromolithograph unused Menu Card illustrated with a Russian Soldier pointing his rifle, with a vignette at the head of the Armoured Cruiser General Admiral, and the Russian Imperial Eagle in a gilt shield at the top, with the printed advert on the verso for Liebig's Beef Tea, 8" x 5½", no place but Russia printed under the soldier, no date but circa

The General-Admiral was the lead ship of the General-Admiral-class armoured cruisers built for the Imperial Russian Navy in the early 1870s. She is generally considered as the first true armoured cruiser.
Liebig's Extract of Meat Company was the originator of Oxo meat extracts and Oxo beef stock cubes. It was named after Baron Justus von Liebig, the 19th-century German organic chemist who developed and promoted this method for industrial production of beef extract. Liebig produced many illustrated advertising products: table cards, menu cards, children's games, free trading card sets, calendars, posters, poster stamps, paper and other toys.
