THE FOUR ELDER CHILDREN OF LUDWIG IV OF HESSE AND BY RHINE SIGN TOGETHER VICTORIA ALBERTA (1863-1950, later Marchioness of Milford Haven and mother of Earl Mountbatten, eldest daughter of Ludwig IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and By Rhine, and of Princess Alice, daughter of Queen Victoria), and her sisters ELISABETH (1864-1918, 'Ella', later Grand Duchess Serge of Russia, murdered 1918, canonized 1991), IRENE (1866-1953, later wife of Prince Heinrich, brother of Kaiser Wilhelm II) and ERNST LUDWIG (1868-1937, Last Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine)

Extraordinary Autograph Letter in the hand of Victoria Signed by the four oldest children to Mrs Tylor thanking her "many times for the nice presents you were so kind as to send us, the books are very pretty & amusing & gave us all a great deal of pleasure. The Christmas carol in Victoria's book was read to us & amused us very much especially as we had seen it acted in German already & could notice how much nicer the story is as Dickens originally wrote it. The tool boxes you gave us last year are very useful to us & we use them often. It is very cold now & we hope soon to be able to skate if the frost continues. We hope you have all had a merry Xmas & that your dear little white ponies are well. We often think of the pleasant days we spent at Carshalton. We are very sorry not to have written sooner & Mama sends you many wishes for this New Year ...", 4 sides 8vo., on monogrammed notepaper, Darmstadt, no date
