signed as Major General in the 18th Infantry Brigade in Prague, mounted with an original cabinet photo showing the Crown Prince head and shoulders in profile, the signature 4" x 3", the photo 6" x 4", framed together in a wooden frame 15½" x 11", Prague, 23rd May
In 1886, Rudolf bought Mayerling, a hunting lodge. In late 1888, the 30-year-old Crown Prince met the 17-year-old Marie Freiin von Vetsera, known by the more fashionable Anglophile name Mary, and began an affair with her. On 30th January 1889, he and the young Freiin (Baroness) were discovered dead in the lodge as a result of an apparent joint suicide
