THACKERAY (Anne Isabella, 1837-1919, from 1877 Lady Ritchie, Novelist, daughter of William Makepeace Thackeray)

Autograph Letter Signed to 'Dear Mr Frank', saying she would "indeed like to come tomorrow & drain the cup of ... hospitality. How good it is of you both to invent such delightful things - but alas I know by experience that after the play the only chance is to go straight home in silence & not visit even a friend's tea-cup ... please ask me some other time ... ", with a postscript that "Hester[?] & her brother are slowly come home in a boat from Oxford ...", 4 sides 8vo., The End House, Berkeley Place, Wimbledon, Monday, no date

When young, Anne acted as her father's amanuensis and got to know many Victorian literary figures, before becoming established as a fine novelist in her own right. When her sister Minnie married Leslie Stephen in 1867 the three lived together in Onslow Gardens, South Kensington.
If it is indeed "Hester" then she is referring to her children Hester and Billy.
