VITA SACKVILLE-WEST WRITING ABOUT HORTICULTURE SACKVILLE WEST (Vita, 1892-1962, Poet & Novelist)

Fine Typed Letter Signed "V. Sackville-West" to Mrs Mincoff saying that "As you will probably have seen in last Sunday's Observer I wrote an article dealing with your particular problem, and I hope that this may prove of use to you. I am afraid Irises would not do in the shade as they require full sun. The same would apply to most lilies. The jasmine would do well on the wall. How exciting for you to have grown the Madonna lily so successfully in Sofia. I am so glad that Harold Nicolson was able to get your investments released ...", 1 side 8vo., Sissinghurst Castle headed paper, 21st August

In 1947 she began a weekly column in The Observer called "In your Garden", although she was not a trained horticulturalist or designer. She continued the very popular column until a year before her death, and writing helped to make Sissinghust one of the most famous and visited gardens in England.
