GEORGE VI IS A “D-D GOOD FELLOW AND MOST HUMOROUS...”
[GEORGE VI
(1895-1952, King of England) & ELIZABETH (1900-2002, Queen of Great Britain)]
Autograph Letter Signed from Joss Egerton to Major R. O. Skeggs M.C.
congratulating him and saying “I merely was asked what I thought about your abilities as an Instructor, your brain matter & your experience in factory work and I could only tell the truth, that of all the many Instructors I had during the war you were my mother’s darling etc, etc, at any rate I got a very charming reply from the University college wizard, & I thought at the time the man would be a B.F. if he disregarded my advice! Their Royal Highnesses are here but apart from them only my old friends Glamis & his dear sister Lady Rose & when not shooting I am busily employed in manual labour tearing ivy off a house & HRH keeps me at it, I never saw such a worker myself... I suggested we might have 5 minutes to rest & smoke, not a bit of it, he wouldn’t stop hacking & pulling until it was all off. A d-d good fellow and most humorous. She of course always was a dear...”, 2 sides 8vo., with original autograph envelope, Glamis Castle headed paper, 4th October
