JACOBSON (William, 1796-1884, from 1865 Bishop of Chester)

Autograph letter Signed 'William Chester' to the Revd E. Dyer Green, saying he is "very heartily obliged ... for all your kind Thoughtfulness", but "Mr. Bushell, with whom I am to stay ... kindly undertakes to convey me to and fro", adding that "Mrs Jacobson is detained at Dee Side", the bishop's residence, "by the distressing illness of our eldest surviving Daughter, But I may have one of my family with me", since Tuesday last he has "confirmed upwards of 1400 in Liverpool & its immediate vicinity" and has still "three other opportunities in prospect", 2 sides 8vo, Waterloo, Liverpool, 13th June no year, watermark

Besides Cheshire, the diocese contained much of the industrial half of Lancashire, till Liverpool was made a separate bishopric in 1880.
