Autograph Letter Signed to Agostino MILLELIRE, Commander of the Port at La Maddalena, Sardinia, in Italian with translation, saying that NELSON "bids me acknowledge your most valued letter of the 27th inst. ... as soon as he had read it, the necessary orders were given to avoid a similar occurrence. His Excellency is most deeply grieved that given the time that has gone by since the event, it is not possible to find the culprit, he hopes that it was occasioned more by ignorance than malevolence", and asking Millelire "to convey the above to Signor Don Giuseppe Pez", 1 side folio and conjugate blank, On board 'Victory', no place but La Maddalena, 28th March (Translation)

At this moment His Excellency Viscount Nelson bids me acknowledge your most valued letter of the 27th inst. and in addition to inform you that as soon as you he had read it, the necessary orders were given to avoid a similar occurrence. His Excellency is most deeply grieved that given the time that has gone by since the event, it is not possible to find the culprit, he hopes that it was occasioned more by ignorance than malevolence.
I have the honour to beg You, Illustrious Sir, to convey the above to Signor Don Giuseppe Pez, and with due respect and obedience I subscribe myself, Most Illustrious Sir,

Autograph Letter Signed to Agostino MILLELIRE, Commander of the Port at La Maddalena, Sardinia, in Italian with translation, asking him on Nelson's behalf "to ensure the enclosed packet [not present] reaches its destination", he gives further news "of the misfortune", of which he first heard yesterday evening, "the officer's arm has been amputated in the bone at the shoulder - he was also wounded in the chest", at this instant Scott is "expecting the officer of the detachment mentioned", he sends "A thousand thanks from His Excellency for the Butter and the She-Goat - I must absolutely pay you the value of the goat" but has "time only to aver myself your most devoted servant", with a P.S. saying "I am ashamed to have written so carelessly", 2 sides 4to., address on conjugate leaf, [La Maddalena], no date, circa (Translation)
His Excellency Nelson begs You, Illustrious Sir, to ensure the enclosed packet [not present] reaches its destination. -- On returning on board yesterday evening I first learnt of the misfortune about which I informed you, Sir, by letter written at His Excellency's order: the officer's arm has been amputated in the bone at the shoulder - he was also wounded in the chest.
At this moment I have your letter to hand, and am expecting the officer of the detachment mentioned.
