AN signed with initials, saying that "if it was your pleasure to pay the Compliment to my dear husband's memory - in sending the Elegie to Her Majesty & the Duke & Duchess of York", her correspondent should explain that Sir William was the grandson of Admiral Sir George Bowyer, "who lost his leg in ... the Glorious 1st of June 1794", her correspondent's answer is at the end of the letter, no place, 31st October
