ROCHESTER (Laurence Hyde, 1641-1711, 1st Earl, brother-in-law of James II) and HOWARD (Hon. Sir Robert, 1626-1698, Restoration Dramatist, from 1673 Auditor of the Exchequer Receipt)

Signatures respectively as Lord High Treasurer, 1685-1687, and Auditor, on the upper portion of a Treasury document, for repayment by virtue of "his Ma[jes]t[ie]s L[ett]res of Privy Seale dated the 25th of March 1685", to Charles Toll of £6000 out of "the Lat[e] Imposicion on Tobacco & Sugar ... Lent unto His Majesty", signed 'Rochester' on the recto, with, on the verso, the end of a note signed 'Ro: Howard' stating there are 98 days from the Order to the date of payment, (13th January 1687 new style), followed by Charles Toll's signature against a list of four part-payments totalling £6000 and the individuals involved, also £96 13s 1d as the interest on £6000 for 98 days [at 6% p.a.], 2 sides 4¾" x 6¾", [Whitehall Treasury Chambers], the order 4th October lacks lower half

Finely penned document, in French with translation, to the Peruvian Foreign Minister (Dr José Antonio Barrenechea, 1829-1889), thanking him for his letter addressed to the King (Willem III) by Colonel Balta, concerning his elevation to the Presidency of the Republic, saying "His Majesty has just replied by the enclosed letter [not present], both original and copy", and assuring the Foreign Minister of his own "high regard", small blind embossed stamp of the Dutch Foreign Office at top left, 1 side 13" x 8¼" and conjugate blank, The Hague, 23rd October small original ribbon slits in blank inner margin

Finely penned document signed, in French with translation, to the Foreign Minister of Peru (José Gregorio Paz Soldán), saying that he "hastened to convey to its high destination the letter dated 10th August last from His Excellency the President of the Republic, which reached him by way of Señor Yrigoyen", and sending His Majesty's reply [not present] with his own "assurance of his high regard", 1 side 13¾" x 8¾" and conjugate blank, Brussels, 7th November a few light original ink marks in blank portions

Attractively penned Copy, in French, of the registration of the birth of a son, André Felix Albert, born the day before on 4th September 1818, to Adrien Rolland, "ex-cavalry officer, aged about 26 years, living in the commune of St Victor des Oules", and his wife Jenny Elionore Appollonie Pujolas de Licon, at the Campagne de Licon, in the commune of St Quentin [de la Poterie, both villages in the canton of Uzès, Gard], witnessed by Pierre Guilhaumier and Clément Adrien Graffand, local householders, before mayor François de Carrière, this copy prepared at Paris by notary Barbier Sainte Marie (from an official copy dated Uzès, 5th June1821), fee 30 francs, with a footnote by Adrien that this deed was lodged by his uncle, Baron Rolland, 2 sides 11¾" x 8¼", 30th June
