MUNTHE
(Axel, 1857-1949, Physician to the Swedish Royal Family, Author of 'the Story of San Michele')
Letter signed to Lady Berkeley,
(Mary Emlen Lloyd née Lowell, circa 1884-1975, of Boston, U.S.A., second wife, 1924, of the 8th Earl of Berkeley, 1865-1942), saying "Vittorio", his valet, "is with me here in Villa Svezia and unless called in for his military examination ... will come with you to Assisi", about Anacapri, "you will both be more comfortable ... in Hotel Quisisana than in San Michele especially so your husband ... I shall be glad to show you San Michele and my old Tower where I live, which contains several things well worth seeing ... Nannina is very well ... though it would be better for her to have more to do. She comes here for my luncheon ... She says that Vittorio must of course come with her to Assisi ... I believe you will be more satisfied with him this time, he is in many ways better than you think and good servants are getting rare in our days - Rome is very empty, everybody is complaining of having no money", 2 sides 10¾" x 8½", Villa Svezia, Aldrovandi 27, Rome, 2nd March
