LOUISE-41529-1.jpg
LOUISE (Marie Elizabeth, Princess of Prussia, 1838-1923, Grand Duchess of Baden from 1856 to 1907 as the wife of Grand Duke Frederick I, Second Child of Kaiser Wilhelm I)

Fine Secretarial Letter Signed with autograph postscript to Lady O'Conor (Minna Margaret Hope-Scott, fl. 1865-1933, wife of Sir Nicholas Roderick O'CONOR, 1843-1908, Anglo-Irish Diplomat and British Ambassador to Turkey) thanking her for her letter "our old friendship has not changed. It began in times of excessive trial and affliction. We both have learned to bear our crosses by the help of God and according to his holy Will patiently from year to year and no more asking: how long? but being silent in accomplishing what He has thought best for us. The missing is ever the same, but peace helps us, the peace of God which is above all understanding ... If I say that the missing is ever the same, I must say that I think it is ever augmenting in getting more and more wordless and going deeper and deeper in our soul and heart. I am thankful to see by your letter that you make also the experience that by the help of God Almighty a sort of new strength arises out of our grief and that we can be able to enjoy what is bright and good and to take part with full sympathy in the joy of others ... our affliction has given us not poverty, but has made us richer, though through the valley of tears. I am so glad to hear good news from your daughter and to hear that your life with them gives you so much satisfaction. Those dear, dear children! I send so many messages of truefelt affection to them and always take and shall take the greatest interest in all what goes on with them ... I am so very thankful that we can speak of better relations between our two nations and that at last we see the diminishing of misunderstandings and an augmentation of quieter jugement [sic] ... I had the great pleasure of making the aquaintance [sic] of the Prince of Wales. He is indeed a very amiable young man and makes a very sympathetic impression. I think it very important that he sees Germany. Maya Marschall is admirable in her grief and in the way she bears her grief ...", ending with the postscript and signature in pencil sending her kindest affection, 6 sides 8vo., on her monogrammed mourning paper with original autograph envelope, Karlsruhe, 28th March
