WAIN (Louis, 1860-1939, Artist famed for his Comic drawings of Cats)

Fine pair of Autograph Letters signed to Peter KEARY (Editor of TitBits, 1884 till 1890) the first asking him “Please don’t forget the Article for my ‘Annuals’. By the bye I am sending tonight to Mr Everett an article on Canada which may interest you... The facts were given by a Canadian farmer who is an old friend of mine and are worse than I have painted them...”, the second thanks him for the manuscript “it is quite unconventional and out of the ruck if you don’ t mind me saying, & just what I strive for for my ‘Annual’...I am writing a bit of imaginative fancy myself for the ‘Annual’ and & hope to make the whole thing quite out of the way. I touch politics in a very satirical manner too in some drawings, But it is only the upper classes who are satirical in our days. The mass of the people take umbrage at anything which hits them...”, each 2 sides 8vo., Bendigo, Westgate on Sea, 26th August and 1st September
