FARMING MANGOLD WURZEL IN 1842

Autograph Letter Signed to 'My dear Sir'
saying that he has "forwarded to Messrs Clowes your paper on the measurement of cattle. I must apologise to you for not having at hand the table of figures to which it refers. Will you therefore forgive me for asking you to copy out once more from your work such figures as you wish to have inserted and to send them to Messrs Clowes ... who have received instructions to print them. Will you be so good as to give me for my own use your opinion upon mangold wurzel as I shall have occasion to mention it and shall be glad of the aid of your experience. What do you consider a good crop per acre and what a large crop? Cannot Mangold be grown on stronger land than Swedes? How far do you think it might be substituted for turnips in our four course system so as to prevent the recurrence of turnips under 8 years? Have you tried it with sheep as well as beasts? I am thinking of trying it against turnips with sheep this year while you make the trial with beasts. I think you have shown your favourable opinion of what we are doing as a practical farmer by the part you take in our proceedings. promising to pay Stewart “as treasurer of the Courier Newspaper the sum of £243.0.8d a Balance as per account agreed on between that Paper and the New Times, and being the consideration for the separation of the two Papers...”, 1 side 4to., Courier Office, 29th August 1928, Rennie replies to Meek on the same piece of paper, saying that “On the other side you have your letter which Mr Stewart returned me on handing him the money agreed to be paid by us all. This I trust will complete the remainder of the enormous drafts required from us. I know not how far our hope may be realised, but if Talent, Industry & Nerve can do any thing for us our chance is a good one. It is to be regretted however that the period of trial is so short. A Committee consisting of A.F.
