FRIEDRICH
(1861-1914, younger brother of Bernhard III of Saxe-Meiningen)
Autograph letter signed 'Fritz' to his future sister-in-law
(Princess Charlotte of Prussia, 1860-1919) for her birthday (24th July), saying "How sad ... that Bernhard", (1851-1928, from 1914 Duke Bernhard III), "cannot be with you for this celebration ... He was very sorry ... As you know, he stayed here with us for one day at our request. All the same he was concerned that you should not take it amiss, that he had to spend 24 hours longer than he had planned in Marienbad!! But is he going very soon to the seaside at Ostend?", on the three previous 24th July they have been with Charlotte's brothers Wilhelm, (Kaiser Wilhelm II) and Heinrich "in Amsterdam, making a trip there from Scheveningen. These holidays we are going ... to Heligoland", after making sure their father Georg II is all right, "On the 4th July he was taken ill" in Scotland with no proper doctor "in a tiny out-of-the-way place ... by Loch Katrine ... Poor Papa has to put up with the most violent pains ... some kind of abdominal inflammation. Hopefully we will now see him well again in Liebenstein", with regards to her family and ending "Your most loving brother Fritz", crowned 'F', 4 sides 8vo., Hildburghausen, Saxe-Meiningen, 23rd July
