saying that "since your kind visit I have been wanting, as I told you, to go with the Duke of Braganza [the future King of Portugal] and pay my homage to the Queen of Württemberg and visit the King", but his influenza "has got so much worse that I have not been able to leave the house and I have been selfish enough to keep my future son-in-law at home with me", since he left this morning "all I can do is to turn to you ... to express to Their Majesties ... our lively regret", and sadly cannot come to Nice to see him, but is "looking forward to a happier occasion", with a carte de visite photograph of the Comte, unsigned, by L.
