SACKVILLE WEST
(Vita, 1892-1962, Poet & Novelist)
Fine Autograph Letter signed 'Vita Nicolson' to Mr Darton
thanking him for "sending me that very interesting young man. He duly turned up, and we had a long talk, and I gave him a letter I thought might be useful to him. He tells me there is some chance of your publishing his poems this autumn, I do hope you will be doing so, if only for the selfish motive that I may see a few more, beyond his seven little leaflets! I sent him to see a cousin of mine, who is now on the 'New Statesman', and he was enormously taken with him, and will I think do what he can to help him. I was sorry to hear you had been ill, and hope you may be sufficiently recovered to pay your visit to Sevenoaks before long - I am away from home for a week , but shall be there for the rest of the summer ...", with a pencilled autograph note the "The 'Young Man' is a New Zealand poet named Cresswell whom I tried to help", 2 sides 8vo., Sherfield Court, Basingstoke, no date but circa

VITA ENJOYED THE PAMPHLET THAT 'VI' (VIOLET TREFUSIS) HAD SENT HER
SACKVILLE WEST
(Vita, 1892-1962, Poet & Novelist)
Fine Typed Letter Signed "Vita Nicolson" to Eva Mabel TENISON
(1880-1961, Historian and Novelist), at Hedingham Castle, saying that it was "nice to hear from you again. I am afraid that I have got no family history of the Wests, so cannot tell you whether the Sir Thomas West you refer to was an ancestor of mine or not. I daresay you may be able to find out from Lady De La Warr ... I have not read either of the two pamphlets you mention and should love to see them. I did so much enjoy reading the article about the Duke of Alba which Vi sent on to me, I think at your request. It was most admirably done ...", 1 side 8vo., with original envelope, Sissinghurst Castle headed paper, 4th May

Fine Typed Letter Signed "Vita Nicolson" to Eva Mabel TENISON
(1880-1961, Historian and Novelist), at Hedingham Castle, thanking her for writing to tell here "about the article by Ian Moncreiffe. He married a cousin of mine, Dynan Erroll, so I suppose that he knows what he is talking about , and in any case he has always been interested in heraldry. I have a question ... Can you tell me whether the late Duke of Alba was the nephew or the great-nephew of the Empress Eugenie ... was he the son or the grandson of the Empress's sister Paca? ..." with an autograph postscript on the verso "I do feel with you over your trials with E.E.! and the loss of all your precious documents & books ...", 2 sides 8vo., with original autograph envelope, Sissinghurst Castle headed paper, 7th March
