HODGSON (Isaac)

Autograph Letter Signed to Alfred Ellis, (1821-1879, second son of John Ellis, Chairman of the Midland Railway), saying that "the report has reached me this morning ... nothing in it ... appears to necessitate our taking any public notice of it as I feared might be the case ... but I have no idea of destroying any papers or documents ... for we cannot trust our adversaries", the report appears to be an acquittal for the writer and his friends, "What will be the result of the firebrand thrown down for the next anniversary meeting neither we nor the Arbitrator can foresee ... Make my best regards to Mr. Malin. The Infirmary is suffering a loss in him which I can never hope to see repaired ... We have been most scandalously treated", he refers to "the unscrupulous attempts of the Doctors to drag us into a mere personal quarrel to cover their own delinquencies ... I may still remain connected" with the Infirmary, "for the much longer time I hope it may have the benefit of your services", 3 sides 8vo., Clifton, 20th November
