MILES
(Sir Bernard, 1907-1991, founder of the Mermaid Theatre, Life Peer)
Typed Letter Signed to A.W. Price,
of the Department of English, University of Malaya, (who has written about the book he is writing on 'Forethrust and Arena Stages'), giving him "by all means, freedom to quote; but ... I think you should emphasise the ... fifteen years between something written as a greenhorn and a deeply considered evaluation supported by slides" of all periods from Greek to 19th century, "also folk theatre all round the world; South America, Tunisia, East Indies, etc, i.e. my R[oyal] I[nstitution] lecture of 1969. And the book I am working on carries that four years further ... I wouldn't wish you to be planting a little academic boomerang ...", with a carbon copy signed with initials of Price's letter of thanks, "I will either add your letter ... or emphasise the variation in dates in some other way ... a matter of the 'flow of the text ...", 1 side A4, 30th June 1973, Sir Bernard's letter 1 side oblong 4to., with printed heading of the Mermaid Theatre, Puddle Dock, Blackfriars, London EC4, 15th June
