MACQUOID (Percy, 1852-1925, Theatrical Designer, Collector and Connoisseur of English furniture, and Author)

Fine Illustrated Autograph Letter Signed to an illegible correspondent telling him that "the Man or rather Beast who made me the offer I told you about. I declined. The consequence was he came up to 36 wh. was not so bad. Would you like any of those in the Dudley at Brighton .. hang them up in place of some rubbish you are sure to have ... I arrived in London so late ... so am only going to send 2 small things, thanks all the same about what you say only I should prefer to take every pain for you & not for anybody else & hope to make a very pretty picture of it. You see there is some difficulty attending getting all the days together. The College is a great thing off my mind but I shall do everything in the picture from Nature again therefore you ruin the chance of having a very much better thing than having a replica which is never so goo. I wish Sir T Thomas would ask me after Xmas but don't expect there's much likelihood of it, you see they are my near relations & as a rule near relations are not as kind as they might be. My small Dudley Picture is as follows. I had a horrid fear so I have done it below. My mother is pretty well thank you. I hope your mother is going on well & yrself also. Explanation. Girl in grief & a white costume of 1793 has received evidently an unpleasant communication, envelope ... is on the floor, dog can't like it either ... the background silk cushions & things on sofa, little child behind sofa looking stressed & surprised ...", 4 sides 8vo., Stanley Place, 17th December no year, small tear and piece missing from top edge barely affecting the text
