Finely penned document signed, in English, to the President of Peru (Mariano Ignacio Prado, 1826-1902, Dictator, 1865-1867, President 1867-1868 & 1876-1879), thanking him for his letter saying that he "had been called to the Presidency of the Republic by the voice of your fellow citizens, and ... proclaimed by the National Congress" and had taken "the oath prescribed by the Constitution", congratulating him "on so distinguished a proof of the Confidence of the Peruvian Nation", cordially reciprocating his good wishes, and commending him "to the Protection of the Almighty", signed also by Edward, 15th Earl of DERBY (1826-1893, Foreign Minister), 2 sides 13" x 8", Balmoral, 27th September

Group of 5 unsigned Carte-de-visite Portrait Photographs, by Downey, Mayall or Hills & Saunders, each inscribed on the back 'Bought at Windsor July 24th 1874' and (all but Prince Albert) neatly identified at the blank foot of the recto in the same hand, dated approximately Queen Victoria (circa 1870), Prince Albert (circa 1860), (half length or head and shoulders), Edward VII (circa 1874), the children in a most engaging tiered group with the boys in highland dress and the girls in matching winter coats and hats edged with white (circa 1872), and Princess Beatrice half length in profile, reading a book (circa 1872), 3½" x 2½", no places, circa 1860 - blank corners of two photos chipped without touching image, verso of one a little soiled
