GRANARD
(George Forbes, 1760-1837, from 1780 6th Baron, Col. Commandant 108th Foot, General, from 1806 1st Earl)
Autograph Letter Signed to his tenant Alexander Montgomery,
explaining that he fears his letter of the 19th "was in the Mail that was robbed", he had first heard that day "of your lands being distrained three days after the rent was due ... Mr Verschoyle ... solemnly assured me that Crawford had done it ... without his knowledge or direction ... I am incapable of countenancing such behaviour ... few events have ever ... vexed me half so much ... Crawford I shall certainly dismiss", but will have to remain long enough to go over the accounts, he hopes Lady Granard's letter to Montgomery's brother will vindicate him, "for if I had injured, I should never have added to it by ... professions of friendship", 3 sides 4to., Dublin, 25th December
