LETTER FROM “A MAN WHO HAD BEEN WITH SCOTT ON HIS LAST AND FATAL EXPEDITION”
GRAN
(Tryggve, 1888-1980, Norwegian Aviator, Polar Explorer and Author)
Fine Autograhp Letter Signed to Catherine DUPRÉ
(1926-2014, Writer) thanking her for her letter which he got when he “returned home from abroad. I understand your way of thinking - feeling. It will give you a more intimate view knowing a man who has shared - let me say life and ‘death’ with dear Uncle Bill. Of course you are welcome indeed to visit me and my wife. But - but, it is very late in the year & will be anything but a comfortable - sunny trip. And in addition very expensive with an English £ of today. Would not a telephone call do? A few weeks ago an American woman - a university teacher, telephoned me from San Francisco just to be able to say to her pupils that she ‘knew’ a man who had been with Robert Scott on his last and fatal expedition. About five minutes we spoke together. If you write me a letter with questions regarding ‘Bill’ and number them you will get the answer over the phone...” with an Autograph postscript signed with initials “In Lord Mount Evans - Teddy Evans book ‘South with Scott’ you will find fragments of my diary - of quite importance for your work...”, 3 sides 8vo., with original autograph envelope, Capri, 4890 Grimstad headed paper, 12th October
