HOWITT
(William, 1792-1879, Author, husband of Mary, 1799-1888)
Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs Charles GRAVES
(Selina, née Cheyne, died 1873, wife of Bishop Graves) thanking her for “the information which you gave me regarding the Cartoons discovered at Cromwell House, Highgate. I was aware of its present use as an outpost of the Convalescent Hospital, but not of the discovery you mention, which is interesting. I saw, sometime ago a shortened piece... that a subterranean passage had been discovered leading, or was supposed to Andrew Marvell’s House on the other side of the road, now destroyed by Aldermanic barbarism. I must make some enquiries respecting these facts before I reprint the work...”, 2 sides 8vo., no place, 15th July

HOWITT REFERS TO DICKENS AND ‘HOUSEHOLD WORDS’
HOWITT
(William, 1792-1879, Author, husband of Mary, 1799-1888)
Autograph Letter Signed to G. F. PARDON
(1824-1884, journalist and author), telling him that they “do not object to the publication of our names as general contributors to your journal, but we shall prefer that the articles we send, should appear without the names, except in some particular cases, as is the custom with the Household Words, and that we shall retain the right to reprint any of our articles, as we do with Dickens, in any future collection into a volume. This prevents our names being always before the public, and makes any reprint fresh. I enclose you an article which I was destining for another quarter, by this same post. ‘Magister Tinnus and his Hommer’[?]... Like everybody else we are going out of town for a few weeks but our letters, proofs etc will be duly posted to us...”, 3 sides 8vo., The Hermitage, Kentish Town Hill, 4th September no year but circa
