MOUNTBATTEN
(Earl Louis, of Burma, 1900-1979, Admiral of the Fleet, Victoria's Great Grandson)
Long Typed Letter Signed to 'My dear Gilbert' Lord MONCKTON (Gilbert Walter Riverside, b. 1915, 2nd Viscount Brenchley, Major-General),
thanking him for his letter and wishing him all best wishes for a successful dinner at Canterbury on 11th, he goes on to talk about the present Garter, calling him a 'Curious man', and that after the ridiculous troubles, "allowing the British Legion to put a Crown on their Badge when they became the Royal British Legion that I finally took the matter in hand personally. I got hold of Garter and dressed him down good and proper. He went quite white and was shaken and promised to deal with the matter immediately", but he doesn't think he can deal with Monckton's case as it has little to do with him, but suggests he will "call on him personally and be rather rough with him. It certainly worked when I took him to task", he then goes on to give advice on how to book the painted hall in Greenwich, but with regards to permission to wear orders, he cannot help as it is a matter which needs to go throught the Queen's private secretary, 2 sides 4to, Broadlands, Romsey, 4th January
