ACCOUNT OF THE QUEEN’S 1845 TOUR OF GERMANY

First hand account in the form of a diary, unsigned, probably by Colonel Wylde
headed “Diary of Journey with the Queen - 1845” starting on Saturday 9th August “Left Woolwich after the Prorogation of Parliament... embarked at ½ past 5 on board the Yacht & Anson & myself on board the Black Eagle & the Squadron dropped down to Lea Reach below Gravesend for the night... Sailed... for Antwerp... remained on board for the night... Lefth Antwerp by Railway... met by K & Q of the Belgians... who accompanied the Q... met by the Prussian Authorities on the frontier & by the K of P at Aix la Chapelle and after Luncheon & seeing the Cathedral went on to the Chateau of Bruhl. 12th At Bruhl - excursion to Bonn - to inauguration of Beethoven’s statue. Princes rooms when at College at night to Cologne & embarked on the Rhine to see Cologne illuminated - fireworks etc... 13. At Bruhl to Cologne to see the Cathedral in the morning - Concert at Bruhl in the evening. 14 - Left Bruhl - embarked at Bonn on board the König steamer with the K of Prussia & Court & went to Stolzenfels - grand illumination...”, he carries on with a day by day account “26 - Rosenau - Prince Albert’s Birthday - dance of Peasants & Concert at night. 27 - Left Rosenau - Luncheon at Meinengen & arrived at Rheinhardsbrunn to dinner and sleep... Gotha - Q lodged in Palace of the Prince’s Maternal Grandmother... 29 - Fete at Gotha - Procession of Peasants morning & state reception in the evening...”, he account continues until the end of the trip “Sept 8th - Arrived at ½ past 8... & went to Chateau of Eu to breakfast - drive out in Charabang at 2...”, 5 sides 4to., no place, 9th August to 8th September
