CLARK
(Leonard, 1905-1981, Poet and Author)
Typed Letter signed to "my dear Wood"
saying he is glad that he had "liked my Christmas poem. It is a far cry from that day in 1925 when I sent you my first slender book of verse. Since then I have published three books of poems and a biography and have edited the Essays and Addresses of Albert Mansbridge ..." continuing a length about his literary work and his work as a schools Inspector, and saying that he "came north in in January 1943, after, I am afraid, my marriage had gone phut. I don't want to go into the horrid details of this, only simply to say that I divorced my wife in 1943 and am now living in rooms in Leeds. It was a very great blow to me for it was so unexpected, and I am often lonely and bewildered, but I struggled through somehow, and now life is blossoming out again for me. I am very happy in my work and have some good and kind friends. One of them, our colleague Marian Hurford, is living in Cheltenham. Perhaps you have already run across her. She is a most delightful and forthright woman. You know Robin Tanner, of course; I saw him in London last week. ...", 1 side 4to., 6 Ashwood Villas, Leeds 6, 19th January
