PRINCESS BEATRICE AFTER THE DEATH OF HER SON MAURICE
BEATRICE
(Mary Victoria Feodore, 1857-1944, Princess, Daughter & Companion of Queen Victoria)
Autograph Letter Signed ‘Beatrice’ to Mary
saying she was “so touched at your thinking of writing to me about the loss of my beloved son & to thank you for all your words of sympathy. The thought that others are feeling for me does help keep on! This termination to 5 months of cruel anxiety, & how I shall miss that dear Boy, so full of life & brightness, & with such a brave unselfish nature. It is some consolation & a pride to think how nobly he had done his work, what a glorious death his was, & that he has gone to the grave regretted by all & leaving a bright example behind him. One can but bow one’s head to God’s will & pray to be given the strength to bear up bravely. I have still 2 dear sons left me, & how many there are who have lost their only ones...”, 2 sides 8vo., Kensington Palace headed mourning paper, 13th November
