HAHNEMANN (Samuel, 1755-1843, German Physician, the Father of Homeopathy)

Fine Autograph Letter Signed in German with translation to Mr Jekyll, with envelope identifying the correspondent as Joseph JEKYLL, possibly the MP for Calne, (1754-1837), saying that he is glad that his "health has considerably improved and that I must have contributed something to this. I wish you total well-being and if I can further this in any way you only have to write .. you are often in my thoughts ... One of your friends will be bringing you this .. it will presumably be a different person from the one via whom you sent on to me a letter of recommendation as I haven't seen anyone like that this summer ... Mr Richard Dunford of Eaton has also taken the 4th edition of Organen with him in case you haven't got a copy yet. I am looking forward with great anticipation to seeing your undoubtedly excellent translation ... On 10th August the 50th anniversary of my becoming a doctor of learning was duly celebrated here with great pomp and ceremony. Mr Durnford will tell you all about that. A foundation was set up on the occasion for the establishment of a homeopathic clinical institute. The fund will be administered by Dr Mühlenbein, a personal physician and a member of the Council in Brunswick, and Dr Rummelin Menseburg .. the fund has been growing almost daily as the result of supporters of homeopathy ... Old age has been sweetened for me by the fact that I have already lived to see so many wonderful results of the good seed I sowed in hope ...", 2 sides 8vo, Coethen, 21st August

HARTLEY (David 1705-1757, Philosopher and Founder of the Associationist School of Psychology)

Fine Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent sending him "2 letters from Mr Dingley with your own to the Jews Hebr & Engl & Dr Pococke's to Mr Dingley. I heartily wish you success in your inquiries, & think it a most laudable, excellent Design. Things seem to be gathering at a distance for some great event predicted by the Scriptures & it is certainly our Duty to be attentive & to look for & hasten towards the coming of our Lord & Saviour, whatever be the precise sense of this Scripture Expression. I make no doubt but the Jews will bear a great & glorious Part ultimately in the Happy Restoration of all Things. You will be very well pleased with Mr Dingley, when he calls upon you in his way to Town. He is a very worthy serious, ingenious Man, & will be very ready too assist in so good a Design to the best of his Powers. The Places you mention in the Old Testament are much to be inspected, there are many others no doubt where there is a Variation from the true reading that renders the Power (?) obscure or less emphatical than it ought to be, tho' not quite unintelligible ...", 2 sides 4to., Bath, 6th December some wear on folds
