MORREN (Edouard, 1833-1886, Professor of Botany at the University of Liège, Belgium)

Autograph Letter Signed in French with translation, to  Alfred William BENNETT , (F.L.S., 1833-1902), telling him that he does "not know if I have already thanked you for your present of your excellent paper on the absorbent glands of the Drosera, Pinguicula etc. I have now to thank you also for your flattering appreciation of my Discourse", (possibly that read to the Belgian Royal Academy on 16th December 1875, on 'The Theory of Carnivorous Irritable Plants') "which I have just read in ... Nature. I believe you have already paid tribute for some years to my minor botanical papers, but I cannot find any notes about them ... I beg you to put a x, on the enclosed list, against any you might have, and I will hasten to send you any that you are missing and which I still have ... Please be so kind as to tell me your private address", 3 sides 8vo., monogram 'M' at the head, Liège, Belgium, 26th May traces of former mounting on blank fourth side

Morren succeeded his father Charles Morren, (1807-1858), as Professor of Botany at Liège. He took pains to distinguish the devices plants use for catching insects from those used to digest them when caught.
Bennett was Lecturer in Botany at Bedford College, London, and at St. Thomas' Hospital. He translated and edited Julius Sachs' 'Lehrbuch der Botanik', 1875, and collaborated in 'Handbook of Cryptogamic Botany', 1889.
