Autograph letter written and signed by Mrs Sophy Murdoch as "private Hon. Sec[reta]ry to the Princess", to Munday Luther Esq., saying the Princess "desires me to thank you for becoming her Vice President in the Maidenhead District - which has not been well organized for the League of Mercy - as people will not understand - that our General and Civil Hospitals are now especially required, for the sick & wounded as well as for our sick poor - also it is from the London Hospitals who supply to a great extent the Doctors & Nurses now at the Front", Barclays (Messrs Simonds) in Reading are "kindly acting as Treasurer for Berkshire - and the more money we receive - the larger the grant to the Berks Hospitals", regimental badge in heading, 4 sides 8vo., Buckhurst, Wokingham, Berkshire, 16th June n.y., c.

The Princess was Lady President of the Order of Mercy and President of the YMCA Women's Auxiliary, Dockland Settlements. Her parents were Princess Helena ('Lenchen', 1846-1923) and Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein (1831-1917).
