LEOPOLD (Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, 1835-1905)

Attractive half-length oval portrait in uniform, woodcut, from an Italian magazine, mounted on a folio sheet, with a separate contemporary note in Italian saying "This prince's candidature for the Crown of Spain was the pretext for the famous and bloody war between France and Prussia breaking out in 1870", the portrait 7" x 6", together 2 sides folio, no place, no date, c. the portrait neatly laid down

A pencil note on the second sheet in Italian says that "Princess Antonia of Bragança-Bourbon", 1845-1913, the younger of Maria II's surviving daughters, and "sister of Luis I King of Portugal" is Prince Leopold's wife.
