DILKE
(Sir Charles Wentworth, 1843-1911, Radical Politician)
Autograph Letter Signed to 'My dear Sir',
regretting that "During the present Session I have come to the conclusion not to attend in any meetings, public gatherings or anything of that kind outside the House of Commons" and that on the date mentioned at "Mr. Storr's kind request" he will be "at the Spitalfields Art School", 2 sides small 8vo. black-edged, 76 Sloane Street, S.W., 13th March
Dilke was Radical M.P. for Chelsea, 1868-1886, when his affair with Mrs. Crawford helped to bring down the Liberal Government. He returned to public life in 1892 as M.P. for the Forest of Dean, and helped to organize the Labour M.P.s into an effective force. Dilke left important bequests to the National Portrait Gallery
