Autograph Letter Signed to Mr. Ellis, asking him to "hand ... the enclosed" (not present) to his brother Alfred Ellis, (1821-1879, second son of John Ellis, 1789-1862, Chairman of the Midland Railway), "it is from one of our local antiquaries who take great interest in Roman remains ... I did not know glass was so much used by the Romans", he knew of it from Horace and Lucretius, whom he quotes, "but generally ... to indicate the quality of brittleness - transparency - brilliancy ...
