JACKSON (John, 1811-1885, Bishop of Lincoln 1853-1868, from 1868 of London)

Autograph Letter Signed to Mr. Jones, saying he is "very glad that you are to have the headmastership. It will now enable you to obtain more help for your work & thus, I hope, to bless you in a place where I am sure you may, with God's blessing, do much good", 1 side 8vo. black-edged, Ambleside, 29th August

Jackson had himself been a headmaster in Islington. He had the mind of a lawyer and was a thorough man of business. By creating the diocese of St. Albans and rearranging Rochester and Winchester, Jackson made the diocese of London more workable, and he later appointed a suffragan for East London.
