MINTO (Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 1782-1859, M.P., F.R.S., from 1814 2nd Earl of)

Autograph letter in French with translation, signed, to Doctor Hupeland, saying "as Lady Minto is entering her carriage to go to Freienwald, may I be allowed ... to express the profound respect and lively gratitude that all her children share with me on their being restored to health", the Doctor knows the case "too well ... to doubt the feelings that the highest skill, applied with such bounty and kindness, inspire in me", 1 side 4to., Berlin, 14th June short tear in one margin without loss

Lord Minto was ambassador to Berlin, (1832-1834), and in 1847-1848 he undertook a special mission to Italy, to support Pius IX in his anticipated liberal reforms. He married in 1806 Mary Brydone, (1786-1853), of Lennel House, Berwick and their daughter married Lord John Russell, Prime Minister 1846-1852 and 1865-1866.
