WEDMORE (Sir Frederick, 1844-1921, Writer on Art and Poetry)

Autograph Letter Signed to George Roland Halkett, (1855-1918, artist and journalist), commenting on so "admirable a notice! How pleased I am that you, with your judgment, should be able to say all that", he offers "one detail" about Hamerton, he agrees "that he was not 'imaginative'; but he was intellectual; he was more than 'descriptive' ", 1 side correspondence card, 17 Savile Row, W., 'Monday evening' no date, c.

Wedmore was art critic of the 'Standard' for about 30 years.
Halkett contributed many drawings to Punch, but was equally interested in politics. His 'The Irish Green Book', 1887, had an enormous circulation during the Home rule controversy. In 1892 he was appointed political cartoonist and art critic for the Pall Mall Gazette, in 1897 art editor of the Pall Mall Magazine, chief editor 1900-1905.
