GUSTAF V (1858-1950, from 1907 King of Sweden)

Typed Letter of Appointment Signed, in Swedish with translation, appointing Air Defence Captain Ingvar I:son Lagerquist as temporary "Staff Engineer ... with the Board of War Materials", engraved heading, wafer seal with Royal Arms and motto 'With the People for the Fatherland ['Fosterland'] ', 1 side folio, Drottningholm Castle, 22nd June four neat filing holes in blank left margin, slight crease from impression of wafer seal

King Gustaf died at Drottningholm on 29th October 1950. During the first world war, he initiated talks with the other Scandinavian monarchs which led to their preserving their neutrality. During the second, his nephew Count Folke Bernadotte was active in securing the release of prisoners from German concentration camps.
