LEES (William Nassau, 1825-1889, Major General & Orientalist)

Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs Bernhardt Bere, congratulating her on her acting, "I was at the last representation of Fedora in Paris and I went to see you last night. It would not be proper I suppose to say that a copy is better than the original ... but your impersonation of character moved me to tears", he commiserates "that you are not better supported. You have I fear to drag the whole coach", 4 sides 8vo., 115 Piccadilly, 12th May no year.

Presumably the 'original' is Sarah Bernhardt herself, for whom Jardou had written Fedora (and La Tosca).
