In 1906 Sir William was on the panel trying election petitions, and gave three verdicts in favour of the Conservatives. On 6th July the Commons were asked by an Irish member "to take into consideration" his alleged anti-Liberal bias, particularly over Great Yarmouth, but Campbell-Bannerman persuaded the House to decline to act. Asquith revived the matter on 7th February 1911 with a severe rebuke to Sir William in the House.
