(1866-1929, Princess of Prussia, daughter of Frederick III Emperor of Prussia), and two of his sisters
SOPHIE
(Dorothea Ulrica, 1870-1932, Princess of Prussia, wife of King Constantine I of Greece) and
MARGARETE
(Beatrice Feodora, 1872-1954, Princess of Prussia, wife of Frederick Charles, Landgrave of Hesse)
Letter in English to their governess, “My darling Minny”,
in the unformed hand of one of them, probably Victoria, saying that they “love you so much. I wish I could see you. Victoria of Prussia Sophie of Prussia Margaret of Prussia”, ending “Sophie did that one stork”, with “one” altered to “two”, 1 side small 8vo, no place, no date, c.
The princesses were the youngest three daughters of Queen Victoria’s daughter the Princess Royal, later the Empress Frederick. Probably written during or soon after the family’s visit to England in the summer of 1881, when ‘Minny’, who had been with the family 12 years, was taken seriously ill, to be nursed by her sister Mrs. Frederick Curtis of Staines. Minny did not return and died on 15th March 1882.
