MONTGOMERY (Florence, 1843-1923, Children's Writer)

Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs Way, saying she is "only too glad ... to please an invalid" such as Mrs. Way describes her daughter to be, "though I fear seeing ... me will only be a disappointment ... When one has admired a book ... the illusion dies away directly ... often those who can express themselves in writing ... fail in conversation", she says this "for fear she should ... think me shy & stupid - which I am", but as soon as she is told a time she "will come directly", 3 sides 8vo., Villa Augusta, 'Tuesday evening', year in another hand

Miss Montgomery was the daughter of Admiral Sir Leslie Montgomery, 3rd. Bart, 1807-1888. The book mentioned may be 'The Town Crier, to which is added, The Children with the Indian Rubber Ball', 1874. In 1913 she published "Behind the Scenes in the Schoolroom: Being the Experiences of a Young Governess".
