AN EXCHANGE IN THE DORDOGNE PÉCANY (Damoiselle Marthe de Alba, widow of Antoine de Courson, Sieur de Pécany near Bergerac)

Attractive copy Document, written and certified at the same time as the original by notary Famouze of Pomport, 10 km SSW of Bergerac, in French with translation, granting to Pierre Aymeric of Pouzy in the parish of nearby Cunèges, Sieur de Fouroumane, "for their mutual convenience" one 'pongnee' (poignée, literally 'fistful') of land in Ratouble called La Cantaloube, on the main road from Pomport to Bergerac, in exchange for two poignées in Labenne within La Cantaloube, bounded by the Causse stream, each property lying within three sides of the other's, the Lady also declares that she gave Pierre's late father François "permission to make a ditch ... within ... La Cantaloube ... under a promise to grant her other land on the edge of the said ditch ... which he did not do", but as Fouroumane "has granted her a greater quantity of land the said Lady acquits and releases the said ditch ... and strip for him to enjoy as ... heretofore", with Famouze's signature and cipher of three 'F's, 2 sides 4to., title on conjugate leaf, Pomport, 31st October

For the arms of both families see Jougla, Armorial. The witnesses were "Pierre Mourgues, practitioner, and François Vincent Courdouguis". All concerned "have signed the original, except for the said Vincent who does not know how to write".
