4 Autograph Letter Signed to William Pengelly, F.R.S., 1812-1894, the geologist, thanking him for "arranging sittings regardless of your own convenience ... I should have blamed myself greatly had I taken advantage of your kindness ... my proposed trip does not at all matter" (28th May 1881), "Please come ... in your most comfortable clothes - I don't care a bit about a frock coat" ('Wednesday morning'), returning photographs "with many apologies. I trust you are well and jolly as when I last saw you ... I saw your name at the Aberdeen meeting" (5th October 1885), 10 sides 8vo., 2 Stratford Avenue and 12 Douro Place, London W., 18th May 1881 - 5th October

The portrait is in the Torquay Museum. Cope later painted Edward VII, the Kaiser, and George V.
